Annemarie Lawrence is an experienced Director of Midwifery with over 20 years experience within the National Health Service. Annemarie has significant expertise in maternity governance, risk management, patient safety and clinical service delivery.

Annemarie has significant expertise in maternity governance, risk management, patient safety and clinical service delivery. She holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership from the University of Birmingham. Annemarie also completed the Senior Healthcare Leadership Award from the NHS Leadership Academy, whilst also simultaneously completing the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme and received the prestigious Chief Nursing Officer Award for her contribution to reducing stillbirths in the North-West Coast region. She also has experience giving evidence to Coronial, Criminal and Public Inquiries. In February 2022, Annemarie was appointed as the Director of Midwifery at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) following a review of Maternity Services by Donna Ockenden. Under Annemarie's leadership the service was transformed, taking the discipline from a rating of 'requires improvement' to 'good' from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). During Annemarie's time at SaTH, she undertook the Agile Project Management Course along with several members of her team which was instrumental in enabling the delivery of the 210 Ockenden Actions. Prior to her appointment at SaTH, Annemarie was the Associate Director of Nursing & Midwifery at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as well as the Clinical Service Lead for Obstetrics & Gynaecology, a position which is usually held by a Consultant. Annemarie held the post of Divisional Quality & Safety Specialist and was responsible for managing the Quality & Safety Strategy (Health & Safety) within the Women's & Children's Division at the Trust. It was during this role that Annemarie was commended for developing and building a successful governance team and leading improvements in clinical governance across multiple specialities. Annemarie held a similar role at the Countess of Chester Hospital from 2016 to 2019 and was responsible for day to day governance arrangements including incidents, RCA report writing, clinical governance meetings, term admission reviews, guidelines and staff support. Annemarie has worked with Baby Lifeline Training Ltd as a Course Facilitator, delivering inputs to professionals across the country to improve safety in maternity services.
